MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT OF NATIONAL COPILAS

SUSTAINING THE REINSTATEMENT OF THE AP ITALIAN LANGUAGE PROGRAM
I am announcing a new initiative following the very successful ACTFL Conference in November at Boston.
NATIONAL COPILAS has initiated an action plan to identify Proven Practices in the teaching and administration of Italian language programs in the United States. Dade County Public Schools, Miami Florida is partnering with National COPILAS on a model identification program showcasing the best proven teaching practices. Dade County Public Schools is the fourth largest school district in the United States behind New York City, Los Angles, and Chicago. A team of professionals from National COPILAS will be visiting the Dade County Public Schools in May to capture the best and brightest delivering Italian language programs from elementary, middle, and high schools. The results will be posted on USASPEAKS Italian international web site, and National COPILAS will publish a booklet describing (data based) the proven practices.
Also, National COPILAS is working with the Italian Embassy National Observatory (appointed charter member) and local consulate observatories throughout the United States. National COPILAS is working tirelessly with the National Observatory to develop a viable strategic plan that prioritizes a set of specific objectives with action steps and identifying individuals accountable to ensure results.
Sincerely,
Daniel L. Stabile, Ph.D
